One of the easiest ways to start attracting attention for my documentary and getting people interested in watching it when its completed is setting up social media accounts to share/ advertise it.
My first step was to choose which platform/ platforms was the best to market on. My target audience is 16 - 40, who have creative views and are interested in radio, the community and of course social media marketing.
With these factors in mind I did some research into what platforms attracted these categories of people more. According to research done by The London School of Economics and Political Science 55% of Instagram users are aged between 18 and 29 and another 33% of them are aged between 30 and 49. Meaning that roughly 88% of Instagram users fits in with my target age making it a great platform to share my project on.
Not only that but Instagram is also a creative content platform therefore a lot of people in the creative industry with creative views use it.
Also I personally have done social media marketing projects in the passed using Instagram and have found it not only the most fun to use but also the easiest to be creative, interesting and attractive on therefore my final choice as clear and I will be using Instagram as my social media marketing platform!!!!!
Making the Instagram
The first step was creating a logo for my project that I could use as a Profile picture for the social media. It's important that the logo represents clearly what my documentary is about therefore I choose a design that includes symbols that represent social media and radio. I also went for a retro style writing and background to represent how Local radio is old but retro can still survive in the modern world.
With the logo ready to go I made the account itself:
I was lucky enough that the name of my documentary was not yet a user name for an Instagram account therefore I managed to name the account @thelocalradiocure.
I used the Bio to give a short yet sweet description of what my documentary is about as well as including a hashtag that will be commonly associated with my piece and putting the link to this blog in the BIO so that people can see what i've done and how i've done it.
Once the Instagram is set up and ready to go, it was time to start creating some interesting content for it. I wanted to ensure I get the most out of this as I can so I made a plan of all the things I could include on the page and ways I could include them.
