My next step in the journey was to start thinking about what sort of footage I wanted to collect, how I could do that and how it might edit together well.
However until your actually filming I feel personally that it is hard to know exactly what you want therefore I came up with the idea of doing a basic story board now with my original ideas, and then adapt it and produce a more detailed/ accurate one down the line after filming has actually began.
With that in mind here is my first draft of my story board for my radio documentary:
I want my documentary to be entertaining and intriguing to watch whilst still being factual, informative, balanced and from an original view point.
My current story board idea includes multiple sections to cover these features, for example it includes montages of events/ the studio to be entertaining and intriguing however it includes factual information from experts and radio works to keep it informative.
The key thing that keeps my idea balanced and therefore a good journalistic piece is the fact that i am not only looking at the positives that social media has to offer, but i am also looking at the negative impacts it could have as well. By doing this it stops my piece becoming too biased or advertising for Social media and keeps it balanced and journalistic.
Also a way of getting people to interact better with a piece of work is to have an emotional/ personal element to it that people can relate to. Hence why in my story board i have planned to include a section about the community element of Hot radio, how it impacts/ helps it as well as Russel and some of the volunteers speaking about the meaning and importance of Hot Radio.
Although I am sure my finale video will not look like this storyboard, it is a rough design of what I want/ need to include and some basic ideas of how I could do that. Once i start collecting footage I will do a more detailed/ accurate to the end result storyboard to help me finalise my edit and make the editing process easier to complete.
