So many people look at social media as a disease killing off old school styled media platforms like community radio... but what if it could be the cure?
My passion for this topic runs deep as radio/ social media are the two key areas i'm looking at as potential career options and that is why i wanted to do a project that shows the two can work hand in hand to help each other thrive.
So what is the project?
I will be creating a 7 minute long documentary exploring all the ways social media can help a local radio station not only survive in this day and age, but grow its audience and its popularity. I will also but demonstrating the importance and meaning of community radio to its local community.
To ensure my piece is a balance journalistic piece i will also look into some of the negative impacts social media could have however i will be trying to prove that if used properly, the positives will far out-way the negatives.
Why a Documentary and not a Podcast?
The number one question I feel will be on most peoples minds when hearing about my project, will be why am I making a documentary instead of a podcast when the idea is radio related? Well the answer to that in my opinion is easy, listening to something is great but actually witnessing it has a whole different impact, a way more powerful impact.
It will be easier to show people the things social media can do for them if the work for a radio station then trying to explain them, plus showing the community side will have a lot more of a powerful impact if people can actually see it instead of just hearing about it.
So what is the purpose of this Blog?
This blog will be my place to document the journey and progress of my project over the next two months until it is completed. It is a place where I can show all the steps I have taken to make the final documentary as well as reflect on the pros and cons of the choices i've made along the way.
