Cant have a Social media based Doc without Social media based video footage...

When doing a documentary like this, some people may not know anything about social media and the features in witch I reference. Thats why it's important not only to explain how these features work but to show it too.

In my pitch I made clear that I wanted to do a video documentary so that it was easier for people to understand my topic buy showing them instead of just talking about it. It's been proven many times over the years that people not only pay more attention if their is visual elements, but most also find it easier to understand and learn more from it.

With this in mind I wanted to get footage of each thing social media related that I speak about. Before filming I created a list of all the examples I would need to ensure I didn't forget anything:

  • Hot radios FB and Insta likes

  • Hot radio content being posted

  • The sharing, tagging and boast features on social media

  • Hot event campaign being created

  • Incites on page as a whole

  • Incites on individual posts

  • Boasting post section, what it looks like/ how people navigate it

  • People viewing posts

  • The Insta and FB layouts on a phone and a laptop

Once I was happy that I had planned for all the social media based footage I needed I arranged a date with Hot Radios social media editor, went to her house and filmed her. Some of the footage I collected was things she was doing anyway, others were recreations as she didn't have to complete those tasks at that time.

I tried to film from different angles to change the shots up a bit so that they weren't all the same and boring however because I was filming in her room that was hard to do without getting unprofessional, and unneeded content in the background such as posters, photos and other personal things surrounding her desk.

Also because I had to speed up, or edit a lot of the content meaning the original audio no longer fitted with the video and I therefore had to record sound effects such as Mouse clicks and keyboard sounds, edit them and sync them up to the footage. This is something I had suspected I might need to do however it took longer than hoped and did put me behind schedule. However, despite that, it allowed me to show more editing/ filming skills with audio than i expected witch in my eyes is a positive.

Here are some photos of the angles/ types of content I filmed during that session:
